Encinitas, California is a small, upscale city located in the northern end of San Diego county. A 2010 population of slightly more than 65,000 for the incorporated area, represents a 12% growth rate from the 2000 census figures (58,014). Located about 25 miles north of San Diego and roughly 95 miles south of Los Angeles, it benefits by its proximity to two major cities while still retaining a small community lifestyle. This coastal Southern California city was incorporated in 1986 when the communities of Encinitas, New Encinitas, Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea and Olivenhain agreed to be consolidated under one local government. Today, city service and government business is conducted through an elected five member city council.
With year round mild weather that averages a perfect 72 degrees and an annual precipitation rate of around 10 inches, residents and visitors alike can take advantage of the natural beauty of the area including a beach that is perfect for both sunning and surfing. Home to some well known celebrities like actor Richard Dreyfuss, musician Joe Walsh of Eagles fame and Lakers owner Jerry Buss, the area has great shopping, restaurants and nightlife.
